weekend snapshots

Another fabulous weekend--this time concentrated in the Tri-State area for a family staycation.  The agenda was packed and energy was up!

Saturday night dinner at Montgomery Inn, a Cincinnatti landmark with the tastiest barbecue sauce EVER.

instagram Ohio River

Montgomery Inn had a great view of the Ohio River... it was truly a classic summer night in the 'Natti.

One lovely night had us gathered around an outdoor patio--catching up and telling stories.  My aunt--a mom-slash-interior-design-maven-- decorates her outdoor space to the nines, complete with pretty pillows and candlelight.

instagram brunch

Sunday brunch: the best meal ever with the best family ever. (And check out the adorable paper plates!)

instagram putt-putt

The final staycation activity: a putt-putt tournament.  The competition was fierce, and the prize exciting: a neon green flamingo cup!

Unphotographed event: an 8-mile canoe trip (splashing doesn't mesh well with iPhones).

a "make it work" weekend

(via pinterest)

Have a great weekend!  I'm headed home for a weekend of staycation planned festivities with my fam.  On the agenda: canoeing, delicious meals, and a putt-putt tournament.  Forty of my closest family members and scheduled events?  It should be interesting...

But first up, catching up with last night's Project Runway premiere.  So glad the next season has finally arrived! (Disclaimer: I normally don't like the "Keep Calm" variations.. but I'll make an exception for Tim.)

loving on pinhole press

Yesterday, I met up with a friend with one mission in mind: a wedding present for our lovely friend, a new bride.  We decided on the always-perfect gift of stationary... photo pads, to be exact.  The bride will start her very first teaching job in August, and I thought a few wedding photo-ed notepads would be a sweet reminder of her new life while she's in her new classroom.

And the perfect place:  Pinhole Press.  I first heard about Pinhole Press from A Cup of Jo, the blog of all things awesome. She practices what she preaches--creating photo pads of her baby son, Toby.

Happy with our chosen photo pads, I took a look around the site.  And wow, I know what all of my gifted birthday-Christmas-graduation presents will be!  My favorites: the personal stationary and the day planners. I can't wait to see the finished products!

inspired by one sheepish girl

sheepish knit crocheted teacups
(her crocheted tea cups are TOO CUTE!)
I recently stumbled along the blog one sheepish girl, and was blown away by what Meredith, the said-sheepish girl, has got going on.  Not only is she an uber-talented knitter (check out her etsy shop!) but she's started this neat series called "Blogging for Confidence" (complete with cute buttons).

This series struck a chord with me.  How many years have I admired the style blogs of others without starting one of my own?  And when I actually did start one... I kept it on the private settings! (so wimpy, I know.)  I'm not an in-your-face, toot-my-horn type person... even in the instances when I truly need to be.

Which brings me to today: publicly blogging and even tweeting about my blog.  It may be a small step for mankind, but a giant leap for me.  So yeah, here's to me! (toot, toot)

weekend snapshots

I had a great weekend at home... relaxing and spending some quality time with my parents.  I decided to put my iPhone to work and documented some highlights, via the always-impressive Instagram.

instagram libbyjb packing

Saturday's haul from Gap Clearance Outlet... not to be confused with a normal Gap Outlet.  This one--a mere 15 minutes from my house--has Gap/Banana jeans for $6.99. Boom, roasted.

instagram libbyjb citrus felt coaster

I've been crafting some of these citrus coasters for my new place.  Purl Bee has super simple template, and it's been an easy project.

Lots of pinteresting going on... so many projects, so little time!

instagram libbyjb boating

On Sunday afternoon, we attempted to beat the heat by going out on the lake.  A happy bonus: I combated my office job by working on my tan.

The theme of the weekend: packing. I didn't get too far, but managed to clear out my bookshelf (mostly) and pack up my books in a few boxes. Two more weeks until I'm on my own...for real!

Other highlights that sadly went undocumented: chocolate chip cookie dough ice-cream and a deer swimming in the lake (true story!)

it's too hot for a clever title

(via you are my fave)
It's hot.  No funny quip or witty explanation can mask the fact that when I even think about going outside, I start to sweat.  As a result, I daydream about cool things... mainly of the liquid or ice variety.

(And no, this isn't a I-can't-wait-for-sweater-weather post [we've still got all of August to face]... I'm just saying that bearable-in-a-tank top-weather would be nice!)

obsessed: Gojee

Gojee homepage

I'm far from an award-winning chef... and by "far from", I mean I've mastered oatmeal and that's about it. Despite having actual skills, I do love food... fueled by my food & drink board on Pinterest and now Gojee.  Described as a Pandora for recipes by Refinery29, this website might just get me in the kitchen to start cooking the food instead of solely looking at it.

Gojee menu

Recipes are found by narrowing down your cravings, current pantry inhabitants, and foods to avoid.  Based on that combination, the site rounds up enlarged photos of delicious looking foods.  You can mark your favorites for later viewing.  (I already have 16...)

Gojee sayings

An added bonus: while waiting for your recipes to appear, you can marvel at Gojee's sense of humor. Oh yeah, they know they're good.

bitty beading in the details

(via ASOS)
Few things are better than buying a truly special piece of clothing... something that just makes you feel like a million bucks because it looks like it might worth a million bucks.  Okay, slight exaggeration, but the addition of a little special something adds a bit of swagger to normal duds.

(via pinterest)
Example: tiny little beads.  Alone, they could easily be found in a craft room or bottom drawer... but together--forming little flowers or swirls--the result is couture-worthy!

On my mind...instagram

As a relatively new iPhone owner (nearing my 1 month...), I am starting to catch on and explore the wonderful world of apps.  One of my absolute favorites: instagram.  I like to flex my own amateur photography muscle and admmire the work of others.

(via me... libbyjb)

I think the coolest part is that you are getting a true peek into someone else's (normally someone way cooler than you) life. No schedule posting or heavy-duty Photoshop.. just you, your environment, and a filter, to add some artsy-ness. My favorites: Kate Spade, Paul Ferney, and Bergdorf Goodman.

work wear

(via See Jane)
Two weeks into my job, and I'm already planning a wardrobe re-do.  Yeah, yeah, I have a nice closet... but this new life of mine requires a bit of an upgrade.  My office environment is a bit casual (jeans are allowed), but I'm thinking more along the lines of the old addage: "dress for the job you want, not the one you have".. which I am translating into a young, sassy yet professional career woman.

EmersonMade work wear
(Emersonmade via fancy girl)
Thus far, my work week has consisted of skirt + top & sometimes sweater.  A winning combination, of course, but one that can tire a bit too easily for my post-grad bank account.

The solution? A little inspiration for reinvention--a push to rethink the pieces in my closet.  And when my clothes creativity fails, a shopping trip will follow.

Happy 4th!

(via preperfection)
Happy July 4th!  The day of patriotic wears, grilling out, and remembering what a great land we live in.  My long weekend consisted of pool time, lake time, family time, and grilling time... with sun and smiles in each!

And... coming soon, to a computer near you... regular posts! Yahoo, I'm getting back in the game.
