a road trip, race trip

I'm headed to DC this weekend to watch my big bro take on his first beastly race, the Marine Corps Marathon. I am super proud of him and excited to be a (spectating) part of the action. I'm hoping I get inspired by the runners to really kick myself in gear!

The fitness motivation is via my "hit the gym... asap." Pinterest board (I don't look  take it to heart as often as I should!)

fall food with a side of sugar

Can I get a "nom nom nom" for delicious fall food?! There's nothing like taking a good thing (apples and sweet potatoes are two of my faves) and making it better... while greatly decreasing the nutritional value. Whatev-- it could be worse!

Recipes: apple nachos & stuffed sweet potatoes

currently reading: front row, anna wintour

I seem to be on a roll with fashion non-fiction, from my last read about Chanel to my current Anna biography. I've been an Anna fan for a long time, and have devoured her cinematic "tributes" The Devil Wears Prada and The September Issue

Oppenheimer's tell-all, Front Rowpaints Anna in a rather unflattering light (surprise, surprise)--noting her trademark icy demeanour and obsession with fashion to the point of cruelty..to herself and others.

It's been a very entertaining read!

"It appeared to me that she needed absolutely no advice from anyone, and she'd carve her own path fairly smoothly."

"Anna's coworkers endured her--some with awe, others with contempt, and still others with fear and alarm."

pinterest trends

It's pretty much old news that I'm completely head-over-heels for Pinterest. I pin it all: potential craft ideas, favorite fashions... you name it, and I've probably got it covered.

I like looking over my pins to see what I've been thinking about/been inspired by..and noticed that when something is on my mind, it seems to trend on my pinboards.  Exhibit A, above: pinning zucchini recipes like it's my job (my food board has loads of trends... since my cooking knowledge is l-o-w!).

Other trends I've spotted across my boards: houses with a pool, top knots, and gallery walls.

catalog cruising

Nothing like a little catalog browsing to make me both happy and jealous of amazing styling/outfits/hair, etc. Above: especially inspiring tears from mini Boden (apparently I really like little chica style!) and Nordstrom. I think the two catalogs represent an ideal style combo of mine: chic career-woman during the week and a sassy mini Bodenette for the weekend.

pretty perfect: katie daisy illustrations

I cannot get enough of katie daisy illustrations. I've run the gamut of adoration--stalking her etsy shop (The Wheatfield), pinning like crazy and now, blogging my praises.

Recently my love has expanded from virtual world-loving to the real world. During one of my many trips to TJ Maxx (I'm there a lot) I stumbled upon a katie daisy stationary set. The cards will be snail-mail to my very favorite people, and I made sure to save a set to frame for my wall (pictures coming soon!). Everything she does is so pretty, I wish I could forgo the frames and just wallpaper everything!

(finally) watching "mad men"

Mad Men Betty Draper

I've finally jumped on the Mad Men bandwagon--started with season one and supplemented with frequents visits to a fabulous tumblr, f*ck yeah mad men (source of the image above).

Thoughts so far: love the fashion, hate the smoking, and amused by the drinking. (a stiff one before your 3 o'clock meeting? Why not!).

think pink: breast cancer awareness

Heidi for Vera Bradley breast cancer

Happy breast cancer awareness month!  Tonight I'm headed to the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer's Tickled Pink night. I'm excited for some good food, good company, and a close-up view of the new Foundation color, Tea Garden (10% of net proceeds in Tea Garden will be donated to the Foundation and other breast cancer projects!).

Vera Bradley certainly isn't the only company support breast cancer awareness - I've rounded up some of my faves. (Supporting the cause may be just the extra incentive I need to join the Clarisonic club...)

gallery wall vs. photo shelves

 Oh Joy gallery wall

I'm torn between two options for my living room: putting up my frames like a gallery wall--like Joy Cho's above--or installing ledges that I can place the frames, like below but without the booths. I love the look of a gallery wall, but also the flexibility that the ledge provides (I could easily switch frames, shapes, etc.)

Oh decisions, decisions! Thoughts?

smitten with suzani

The Vera Bradley color reveal is always a Christmas morning-like moment for me...what's going to be my new favorite? Winter 2011 didn't disappoint... especially with Suzani. Black and gold, filigree motif--everything is exactly to what I've been digging lately.

My HP is happily covered by the laptop skin--a wonderful gift from Vera Bradley friends from my internship days.  Can't wait to work from my nearest Starbucks to show it off!

My picks, from left to right:
Chain Bag
Laptop Sleeve
Laptop Skin
Umbrella

halloween-chic

Matchbook Mag pumpkins
I am not really a big Halloween person--never have been and probably won't ever be until I can dress up a cute little baby like an owl. I've never liked scary movies and have seen enough of those half witches smashed against a wall/door/pole. Although it's my first official holiday to decorate for, I was planning on simply skipping Halloween and those fake cobwebs.

But one look at Matchbook mag's pumpkin Pinterest pinboard (say that 3x fast!) and I'm inspired to take another look at Halloween decor. The pumpkins the Matchbook gals have found show it is perfectly fine to be participate without skeletons and dripping paint/blood...just find that fine line between festive and (truly) frightening!

And thus, the quest for Halloween-chic began!

(The toy spider is the wildcard--if I am really getting into my newfound Halloween spirit.  If not, the black and lace will do just fine!)
