j.crew dream wardrobe

j.crew dream wardrobe

My daily wardrobe is normally an eclectic mix of Gap, Old Navy, and T.J. Maxx. But... if the stars ever aligned and my Fort Wayne sky started raining Benjamins... I  would definitely  dress head-to-toe in J.Crew. The scallops, polka dots, stripes--love love love!

(And can I just say how addicting Polyvore is? I've been admiring the boards of my friend Sierra for a while, and can't believe it took me this long to start using the site. I'm a fan!)

an interior you can't get enough of: Miller House

I devoured the March issue of Matchbook Mag (... what else is new?). I especially liked the feature on cover girl Trina Turk: her poolside lounge wear... sleek and chic bob... LA home... but I digress. What really caught my eye (in addition to the swoons mentioned above) was her mention of Indiana. YES! The great Hoosier state, finally recognized.

A bit more context to Trina's Indiana reference: when asked for one interior she "can't get enough of", she answered with the Indiana residence of Irwin Miller. After she described the home as "perfection" and a "a mix of cool, modernist architecture, ethnic textiles, and objects and splashes of color"---I knew I had to do a little investigating.

And what I found was a beauty! Located in his hometown of Columbus, Indiana (a mere hour from my own hometown), the stunning Miller House was designed by architect Eero Saarinen and reflects Miller's love of modernist architecture.

I wish I could say all Indiana houses looked like this, but alas Miller House is definitely one of a kind! It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 2000 and is now part of the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

I love the pops of color and easiness of the layout and decor. I think Trina's description of the space is so spot-on!

diy douchebag jar

My family is a clan of "New Girl" super fans. (And "Modern Family", "Amazing Race."... etc, etc.) Zooey Deschanel is adorably quirky as Jess, and her leading men are seriously hilarious.

My favorite roommate: loafer-wearing, neat-freak Schmidt. And my favorite Schmidt accessory: the douchebag jar. It's simple yet effective: say something stupid--put money in the jar.

I decided to diy a jar for the birthday of a fellow "New Girl" fanatic, my younger brother Brian. (I'm saving a pair of Schmidt-like loafers for Christmas...)

It was beyond easy:

1. Get a jar.
2. Glue a pink Post-it to the jar.
3. Write "douchebag jar" on the Post-it with a black marker. (I found an image of the jar online and traced the lettering to get as authentic as possible.)
4. Fill with dolla bills (or let the douche pay with his own bills).

He loved it! I think it may get filled pretty quickly while hanging out at his fraternity house...

Nothing like instagram to make my life look a little more hipster than it really is! Has anyone else been doing #marchphotoaday? I've actually been keeping up (some days are better than others...) and am really enjoying it! I have some co-workers doing it too, so sometimes there's a little pow-wow to come up with something good.

There's still quite a few days of March left, so join the fun! Here's the full photo schedule, by fat mum slim.

happy weekend + daylight saving time

Happy weekend! This week (and just about every other lately) has seriously flown by. I'm looking forward to doing some major lounging, peppered with organizing and push-ups (my office is doing a push-up challenge this month--to say it's been tough is a huge understatement!)

And daylight saving time begins on Sunday, so our clocks will be springing forward...unless you are one of the lucky ones that live in Arizona or Hawaii because in that case, I think I need to arrange a visit...

...but I digress.

Have a great weekend! (And check out the drawing above and more by the super talented Katie Evans at her tumblr, hello hello design).

blue & white

It seems like my eyes are constantly drawn to a blue and white color palette these days. Although it may not be the newest combo (hello orange + pink, and mint green anything), it's still fresh, clean, and classic in my book.

And how adorable is that bread bag from ZARA Home? (Oh European I miss you!) It reminds me of my days in Madrid--my little Spanish grandma I lived with kept fresh bread in a similar cloth bag.

And I'm still in awe of Katie Armour's blue gingham curtains in her Alameda home from an interview with refinery29. I don't know if it gets any more "Matchbook girl" than that!

A little beachy, a little preppy--blue and white just seems so easy. Really, it hits an interior sweet-spot for me :)

model makeup

During the most recent Fashion Week, I was super intrigued with these beauty face charts instagramed by Teen Vogue on their New York Fashion Week Pinterest board. I like the "paint by numbers" mindset---tell me exactly where to put the blush/bronzer/eyeshadow.

My own routine is so basic that I've been itching to branch out and up my beauty game...and the faces above are just tame enough that I'm not too intimidated. Bring on the contouring!
